CoolSculpting 101

Dr. Freeze literally freezes and kills fat cells using a procedure called CoolSculpting. This procedure allows our skilled technicians to reduce unwanted bulges of fat with NO surgery and MINIMAL downtime[3][4][5][6][8][9]. The most popular Dr. Freeze treatments are only 35 minutes long and utilize controlled cooling to target and eliminate stubborn fat. Best of all, Dr. Freeze has a proven track-record of delivering results that are undeniable and long-lasting - so your body sculpting investment will be worthwhile[1].

The science behind CoolSculpting is groundbreaking. It is based on the fact that fat cells are more susceptible to freezing than surrounding tissue. This allows Dr. Freeze to precisely target only the fat cells underneath the skin (without harming the skin or any other tissue)[1][2][7]. Then a few weeks after the treatment, the dead fat cells begin to shrink and are naturally metabolized leaving you with a slimmer physique[3][4][6][8].
  • Non-surgical
  • Kills unwanted fat cells
  • Minimal downtime
  • 35 min procedures
  • Non-invasive
  • Long-lasting results

1

Many of us have stubborn subcutaneous fat that persists even when we eat right and exercise.

2

CoolSculpting precisely freezes and kills these unwanted fat cells without permanently affecting any other tissue.[7][8]

3

With each round of CoolSculpting, 20% to 25% of the targeted fat cells shrink, disintegrate, and eventually disappear.[7][8]

4

8 to 12 weeks after the procedure, your body naturally eliminates the remnants of the dead fat cells leaving you with a slimmer physique.[5][8]

Top 5 reasons we focus on CoolSculpting

1

CoolSculpting is safe

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that precisely targets only the fat cells underneath the skin (without permanently harming the skin or any other tissue).[1][2][7]

2

CoolSculpting is easy

The most popular CoolSculpting treatments are only 35 minutes long.  There is NO surgery, NO anesthesia, and minimal downtime – so you can immediately resume your daily activities.[3][4][5][6][8][9]

3

CoolSculpting is effective

20 to 25% of the targeted fat cells are frozen and metabolized with each treatment.  Once the targeted fat cells are metabolized, they are gone for good.[1][2][4][5]

CoolSculpting is affordable

CoolSculpting is typically only a fraction of the cost of liposuction or plastic surgery.

4

CoolSculpting is
ultra-popular

CoolSculpting is one of the world’s leading non-surgical fat reduction procedures. Millions of CoolSculpting treatments have been performed worldwide.

Step 1

Schedule a Consultation
This is the easy part. Just give us a call or use the Schedule a Consultation function here on this website and you will hear back from us soon.
To be eligible for CoolSculpting you must:
  • be 18 or older
  • Not be pregnant
  • have NO disqualifying medical conditions such as:
    - Allergy or sensitivity to cold temperatures
    - Cryoglobulinemia
    - Cold agglutinin disease
    - Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria
    - A history of Paroxysmal Adipose Hyperplasia
  • Have NO serious medical conditions (e.g. active cancer), or provide us medical-clearance from your primary care provider or specialist that specifically states CoolSculpting is safe for you.
  • have a BMI of less than 30 or be willing to combine CoolSculpting with a professionally-supervised weight loss program
  • have an interest in reducing stubborn pinchable fat from any of the areas Dr. Freeze treats.

Step 2

Initial Consultation
During your first visit, you’ll work with a CoolSculpting specialist to:
  • Discuss your body contouring goals.
  • Determine if you’re a candidate for CoolSculpting.
  • Determine if you’re a candidate for the Physique Hero program.
  • Answer your questions about the procedure.
  • Physically examine the specific bulges of fat you want to target.
  • Identify which Dr. Freeze treatment packages are best suited to meet your goals.
  • Then, after you purchase your Dr. Freeze packages our staff will book your first round of CoolSculpting treatments.
[Patients typically purchase two Dr. Freeze packages at a total average cost of $5,200]

Step 3

Procedure Day

NO SURGERY. NO ANESTHESIA. MINIMAL DOWNTIME

Your CoolSculpting professional will start by taking photographs to help track your progress, publish potential results achievable with our services, and promote our capabilities.
[Ask your Dr. Freeze team member about the Physique Hero™ program which allows us to share your Dr. Freeze journey with the general public and grants you with desirable perks that are hard to resist.]
Next, your Dr. Freeze specialist will mark the target areas, apply a gel pad to create a barrier between the applicator and your skin, and then place the applicator(s) on your body. As the applicator pulls in targeted skin, you’ll feel a light vacuum pressure.
As the procedure starts, you’ll feel intense cold. Approximately 10 minutes into the treatment, however, the sensation of intense cold will subside as the area being targeted becomes temporarily numb.
Each patient has their own individual sensitivity to cold and discomfort, but most patients do NOT describe the procedure as painful. In fact, most Dr. Freeze patients read, catch up on email, watch TV shows, or even take a nap during the procedure.
At the end of each treatment, the applicator(s) and gel pad(s) are removed. Then each treated area is massaged for about 2 minutes to help break up the fat cells and support the fat reduction process.[3][4][5][6][8][9]
Each treatment takes 35 to 75 minutes to complete (depending on the type of applicator used). During a typical procedure day 2 to 4 areas can be successful treated. Some Dr. Freeze centers offer “dual sculpting” that allows the treatment of two areas simultaneously.

Step 4

Resume Your Daily Activities
There is typically minimal downtime after CoolSculpting. This means you can return to your normal activities immediately after the procedure. Patients often return to work right after CoolSculpting and some even go to the gym later that same day.[3][4][5][6][8][9]

Step 5

Witness Undeniable Results
CoolSculpting results do NOT happen overnight. In fact, the process of naturally eliminating 20-25% of the treated fat cells typically takes 1-3 months.
Since CoolSculpting results occur gradually over time, it is often hard to visually appreciate the subtle day-to-day changes that are slowly enhancing your physique. In fact, some patients who look for changes on a daily basis are unable to fully recognize the magnitude of fat reduction that is evidenced in their before and after pictures. Fortunately, even these patients often comment: “I know it worked, because my clothes fit better!”
Furthermore, patients consistently report a more meaningful and dramatic fat reduction after at least two rounds CoolSculpting. That is why, all Dr. Freeze CoolSculpting packages include at least two rounds of treatment for each targeted body area. Therefore, it is important to remember that the final results of a Dr. Freeze CoolSculpting package are achieved 3 months after the SECOND round of CoolSculpting.
Which brings us to our next step: Re-Treatment
NOTE:

Measuring your waistline is NOT a reliable method to track CoolSculpting results, because the accuracy of such measurements is compromised by the following:
  • From one measurement to another, it is impossible to consistently place the measuring device in the exact same position all the way around your waist.
  • Even a minuscule variation in the position of the measuring device can have a large impact on the measurement.
  • Inhaling and exhaling can have a dramatic effect on waistline measurements.
  • It is impossible to remember or recreate the precise degree of inhalation or exhalation that existed during the original measurement.
  • The constantly varying amount of bloating, amount of stool in a person’s bowels, and amount of urine is a person’s bladder can dramatically change waistline measurements.
  • To state something that should be painfully obvious to everyone: it is impossible know or recreate the precise level of bloating (if any), stool retention, and urine retention that existed when the original measurement was taken.

Step 6

Procedure Day - Round 2
All Dr. Freeze CoolSculpting packages include TWO rounds of treatment for a more meaningful transformation.
The second round of CoolSculpting is usually performed 8 to 12 weeks after the initial treatments. Patients who want accelerated results may request their second round of CoolSculpting as early as 6 weeks after the initial treatments.
At the start of your round 2 procedure day, our CoolSculpting specialists often take photographs to track the results from the initial treatments.
The rest of the procedure day will go as expected: (i) your Dr. Freeze specialist will mark the target areas, (ii) apply a gel pad to create a barrier between the applicator and your skin, and (iii) then place the applicator(s) on your body. As the applicator pulls in targeted skin, you’ll feel a light vacuum pressure.
As the procedure starts, you’ll feel intense cold. Approximately 10 minutes into the treatment, however, the sensation of intense cold will subside as the area being targeted becomes temporarily numb.
At conclusion of your procedure day, you will schedule a follow-up appointment 8 to 12 weeks out.

Step 7

Round 2 Follow up

[8-12 weeks after the second round of CoolSculpting]

During this appointment our specialists may offer to take photographs to track the final results you achieved after the second round of CoolSculpting.
This follow-up session is also an opportunity to:
  1. Discuss sharing your Dr. Freeze experience with the public by enrolling in our Physique Hero™ program. Being a Physique Hero comes with perks that are worth considering.
  2. Discuss your future physique enhancement goals. Are there other body areas you want to target with CoolSculpting?
  3. Schedule your annual Physique Touch Ups™ session.

Step 8

Annual Physique Touch Ups
First, let us get one thing straight: the fat cells killed and eliminated with CoolSculpting are gone for good. It is important to acknowledge, however, that over time the remaining fat cells may become larger, particularly with significant weight gain. Furthermore, your body does produce new fat cells some of which may be deposited in the body area you targeted with CoolSculpting.
So, for any of our patients who have gain 10 pounds during the holidays, or gone through prolonged period of stress-eating, we created our Physique Touch Ups. With these annual sessions, Dr. Freeze re-targets the body areas we previously treated with CoolSculpting to help revitalize any results you have lost over the previous year.
Members of our Physique Hero program can purchase Physique Touch Ups at special pricing.

Possible Side Effects

Typical Side Effects

The following effects can happen frequently in the treatment area during and after a CoolSculpting treatment. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks.
During a CoolSculpting treatment:
  1. Sensations of pulling, tugging, and mild pinching at the treatment site
  2. Intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, cramping. These sensations lessen as the area becomes numb
Immediately after a treatment:

  3. Itching, skin sensitivity, tingling, and numbness. Numbness can persist up to several weeks after a treatment
  4. Sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental area treatment
There are other side effects that can happen with submental and submandibular area treatments (under the chin/double chin treatments):
  1. Cold exposure to the hypoglossal nerve may cause tongue deviation following treatment of the submental and submandibular areas.
  2. Cold exposure to the marginal mandibular nerve may cause lower lip weakness following treatment of the submental and submandibular areas.
  3. Cold exposure to the submandibular gland may cause dry mouth or decrease in saliva production following treatment of the submental and submandibular areas.

Rare Side Effects

The following side effects can happen in the treatment area, during and after a CoolSculpting treatment. The risk for the side effects listed below is small, but possible. We have provided estimates for how likely it is that you could have a certain side effect. These are listed in the parentheses below.
  1. Paradoxical hyperplasia: [About 1 out of 3,000 treatments, 0.033%]
The gradual development of a visibly enlarged tissue volume, of varying size and shape, in the treatment area two to five months after the treatment. This is distinguished from temporary swelling and will not resolve on its own. Surgical intervention may be required.
  2. Severe pain: [About 1 out of 6,000 treatments, 0.017%]
Patients may experience pain of varying severity, which more commonly can be described as mild to moderate, and in rare instances, can be severe.
  3. Late-onset pain: [About 1 out of 6,000 treatments, 0.017%]
A typical onset several days after a treatment and resolution within several weeks.

Very Rare Side Effects

The following side effects can happen in the treatment area, during and after a CoolSculpting treatment. The risk for the side effects listed below is very small, but possible. We have provided estimates for how likely it is that you could have a certain side effect. These are listed in the parentheses below.
  1. Hyperpigmentation: [About 1 out of 11,000 treatments, 0.009%]
Dark coloration of the skin may happen after treatment. Typically, it resolves spontaneously.
  2. Freeze burn (“frostbite”): [About 1 out of 15,000 treatments, 0.006%]
First- and second-degree freeze burn which may happen during treatment. It typically resolves without additional side effects with proper care.
  3. Treatment Area Demarcation (TAD): [About 1 out of 20,000 treatments, 0.005%]
An aesthetic outcome of treatment in which the patient experiences excessive fat removal in the treatment area, resulting in a visible disruption to the continuous contour of fat, or unwanted indentation in the treated area.
  4. Vasovagal symptoms: [About 1 out of 30,000 treatments, 0.003%]
Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, flushing, sweating, or fainting might happen during or immediately after the treatment.
  5. Subcutaneous induration: [About 1 out of 30,000 treatments, 0.003%]
Generalized hardness and/or discrete nodules within the treatment area, which can develop after the treatment and be accompanied by pain and/or discomfort.
  6. Cold panniculitis: [About 1 out of 60,000 treatments, 0.002%]
Cold panniculitis results from injury to adipose tissue exposed to cold and may result in a mild to severe inflammatory response. In mild cases, the symptoms are self-resolving and may include redness, swelling, skin nodules, warmth, tenderness, and possible low-grade fever. These cases typically resolve without long-term side effects. In more severe cases, an intense inflammatory response may result in more extensive tissue damage, including fat tissue death, which may require medical or surgical intervention.
  7. Hernia: [About 1 out of 185,000 treatments, 0.001%]
Treatment may cause new hernia formation or worsen preexisting hernia, which may require surgical repair.
